Product details

Greta is repeatedly drawn to the street of July 10 in Santiago de Chile. It is the famous street of spare parts sellers. Here, Greta searches for the necessary parts to put together the school bus in which her only daughter tragically died. The search takes her back into her own past and to the abandoned house of her first love, Juan, which defiantly stands against the demolition plans of a construction company as the only building in the area. But Juan has disappeared, just like the friends of the communist youth movement during the military dictatorship, and like the children of Colonia Dignidad. Yet somewhere in a hole in the ground, they are all being held captive, all the disappeared. Somewhere beneath the earth of Chile, there is a tremendous unrest. Nona Fernández's novel serves as a reminder of the silence surrounding the recent past. The crimes committed during the military dictatorship, which did not spare the youth.
