Through the reconstruction of Sergei Prokofiev's score for Sergei Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky (1938) and following the world premiere of the original film music in Berlin and Moscow, an interesting chapter in Sergei Prokofiev's biography can be rewritten. While musicological research regarding this film has always initially focused on the Alexander Nevsky Cantata op. 78, which was criticized as being too sentimental, it is now possible for the first time to examine the original score in depth. The author highlights the background of this work, clarifies the composer’s original intentions, and revises some insights from the prevailing discourse on Sergei Prokofiev.
