The need for process optimization in large corporations exists not only in the operational production area. Consolidating and reconfiguring internal support service processes is becoming increasingly relevant for achieving strategically focused corporate goals. Nuria Martín Pérez examines the internal structures and process flows of international corporations that are at different stages of optimizing service processes. Based on empirical analyses and theoretically conceptual considerations, the author develops a systematic and method-supported approach for the organization and management of internal service units. Criteria for designing an efficient structure of internal service activities are established, with particular emphasis placed on the role of Shared Services.
