Never before has so much been done for coastal protection in such a short period as in the second half of the 20th century. The latest research findings and new technical possibilities were reflected in massive coastal protection projects. This unique standard work on coastal protection includes comprehensive documentation of all state protective dikes along the Schleswig-Holstein west coast. The present second volume covers all mainland dikes from the Eider to the Elbe marshes near Hamburg, as well as the islands of Trischen and Helgoland. From north to south, the individual dikes are documented, including other coastal protection structures such as sluices, drainage systems, groynes, etc., detailing their history, development, and current status. The work highlights the various aspects of coastal protection within the tension of politics.
