Sex education is an independent subject area within overall school education; organising sexual education is part of the school's educational mission. The first task is to provide information about physical processes. Sexual education is also always social education. The educational mission of the school ultimately aims to promote and enable sexual self-determination. The book provides a brief introduction to sex education in schools, with a special focus on the role of the teacher. It provides basic didactic and methodological knowledge on how to deal with this topic in class and how to design appropriate teaching units. A focus is placed on media competence, without which sexual education and sex education are no longer conceivable today.
