Thomas Mann's popular rogue novel is a fictional autobiography, whose youthful hero captures the hearts of readers in a storm. It is not a detached work of old age, but rather a parodic adventure story of the highest linguistic elegance. Thomas Mann has been working on Felix Krull since 1910. The first book of the novel was published in 1922, followed by an expanded version in 1937. It was not until the autumn of 1954 that the first part of the memoirs was published as part of the Stockholm Complete Edition, after several years of work. There are no concrete plans for a second part from Thomas Mann. The present reprint corresponds in text and design to the first edition of 1954. After the release of this edition, the author himself made changes to the text; the final version of the novel was ultimately presented in the third edition (1955).
