In a castle and in a tavern, a group gathers. The travelers hardly know each other, and everyone is at a loss for words. So they share their adventures about the game with tarot cards, as suggested by the random arrangement of the figures. By reconstructing with words what the cards only depict, Calvino succumbs to the "hellish temptation" to tell all the stories that can be found in a tarot game. The result is a magical little book about the tarot game and its wonders.
