The volume offers overviews in its first part on resistance before 1933, on communist, socialist, and civic (national conservative) resistance, on the defiance of churches and Christians, on military resistance, on youth opposition, and on the resistance of the persecuted, women, and emigrants. The second part includes more than 60 articles on resistance groups, events, problem contexts, and terms. Forty authors contributed to this section. References provide access to further information. The third part of the lexicon contains short biographies of nearly all 650 individuals mentioned in the book from the resistance. The lexicon is based on the latest scientific findings. It has been written not only for a broad interested audience but also for specialists.
