August Macke (1887 - 1914) left behind a body of painting and drawing that is indelible and inexhaustible. In 1962, Elisabeth Erdmann-Macke, née Gerhardt, published her notes, which she had begun in 1915, to "preserve an image of their father" for her sons Walter and Wolfgang.
