In August 1914, when the great nations of Europe declared war on each other, Franz Kafka began writing his novel "The Trial." The circumstances of the time made it difficult for him. Despair and discouragement accompanied him during the writing process, as if he had already anticipated the events of the coming decades due to the happenings of his own era. On September 13, 1914, he noted in his diary: "Again barely two pages. At first, I thought that the sadness over the Austrian defeats and the fear of the future (a fear that seems both ridiculous and infamous to me) would completely hinder my writing."
