At the height of his fame, Stefan Zweig left Salzburg in 1934 and rented an apartment in London. From there, he tried to continue his work and hired Lotte Altmann, who had fled from Germany, as his secretary. Five years later, just days after the outbreak of World War II, she would become his second wife. In between was a time of cautious rapprochement with the 27 years younger Lotte and significant tensions with Zweig's wife Friderike, from whom he divorced in 1938. The volume, supplemented with numerous unknown images, includes the previously unpublished letters of Stefan Zweig to Lotte Altmann and their correspondence with Lotte's family until their departure from Europe in the summer of 1940.
