What is happiness? Later, one knows it. Alain and Mausi, both forty and married for 15 years, have reached the midpoint of life. But not only has their life aged, their love has too. It almost seems as if they have left love behind - now the vegetarian era threatens. When their mutual friend Elfi unexpectedly passes away, Mausi is in her apartment in Berlin and Alain is at a translator conference in Cologne. It is a day in June 2004. Old wounds are reopened for both of them. Elfi was a friend from the days of the Freiburg shared apartment with Alain, Mausi, Justus, Inge, Toby, and Babette. Elfi was a vivacious yet sorrowful photographer whose only subject was men, including Alain. In 1983, they spent a summer of love and freedom on the French Atlantic coast, a summer none of them has forgotten.
