Rose Ausländer, born in 1901 in Czernowitz/Bukovina, survived the years 1941-44 in the ghetto and in a cellar hideout in Czernowitz. In 1946, she emigrated to the USA, and in 1965, she moved to Germany. She believed that writing was still possible even after the Shoah and worked diligently: her body of work includes 3000 poems. In this selection, Helmut Braun presents the most important and beautiful poems from the life’s work of this impressive poetess. With a contribution from Kindler's Literary Encyclopedia, including details about her life and work.
