Nobel Prize for Literature 2007. In her novel "The Memoirs of a Survivor," Doris Lessing conjures an uncertain future: life in the city has collapsed, and people are constantly on the move, searching for ways to survive. Young people and adults occupy empty houses, loot stores, and hordes of children roam the streets. The main character, an older single woman, observes the chaos of the street from her apartment window. One day, a young girl named Emily, along with her pet Hugo, unexpectedly appears in her living room and asks for shelter. While all forms of public order have ceased to exist outside, the two of them settle into their new life together.
