Experience has taught us that historical events can only be interpreted and presented objectively after a certain distance in time. For this reason, many publications about the phenomenon of National Socialism have been subject to biased influences, which in turn met with resistance from readers. Therefore, we have attempted to let the political events of recent German history speak for themselves. The documents compiled and commented on by Walther Hofer, a professor of modern history at the University of Bern, speak a compelling language. Every sentence carries authentic significance and represents a human and political stance that must be presented as a cautionary example for the present. We hope that this compendium of inhumanity, which simultaneously invokes the forces of another, better Germany, will serve its purpose.
