Stephan Wackwitz tells the story of his mother's life, as it was and as it could have been - with warmth and empathy, with intelligence and precision. Born into a Swabian industrial family in Esslingen am Neckar, Margot, who was born in 1920, flees from her authoritarian father to the Lettehaus in Berlin, where she learns fashion drawing. However, despite early artistic successes and a trip to America, she is unable to turn her talent into more than a hobby of a wife and mother in provincial Germany during the economic miracle. The 20th century opened up all possibilities for women like her - and then immediately closed them again.
