Product details

Thomas Mann's four-volume Joseph novel is a pinnacle work of the 20th century. Published between 1933 and 1943, this grand biblical narrative was from the outset in stark contrast to Nazi ideology and is now regarded as a significant monument of exile. As part of the extensive annotated Frankfurt edition, this gigantic work is being critically edited for the first time. The commentary documents the extensive archival material - manuscripts, notes, materials - and reveals the wide array of cultural-historical sources that served as the foundation and inspiration for the author. A particular focus is placed on the reception of the work, which spans over twenty years. The text volume of this box set includes the novels 'Joseph in Egypt' (1936) and 'Joseph the Provider' (1943), while the commentary volume contains the commentary on these two novels as well as the paralipomena, materials, and D.
