When Chief Inspector Claudius Zorn dutifully sets out for his weekly visit to an elderly gentleman on an ordinary Wednesday evening in December, he suddenly finds himself in the man's villa, right in the middle of a crime scene. The door is open, an oppressive silence fills the entrance hall, and in the salon, Zorn is confronted with a horrifying sight. The old man has been murdered, and Zorn knows he must now undertake the hardest task of his entire career: delivering the sad news to the only relative. It's something he would rather avoid, as this woman means everything to him. Soon after, when another murder occurs, Zorn and Schröder are already neck-deep in sluggish investigations.
