The present brochure addresses the implementation of risk assessments, including hazard analyses, which manufacturers are required to conduct under the EU Machinery Directive. Such analyses are to be distinguished from activity-related risk assessments according to the Occupational Safety Act and the Industrial Safety Regulation carried out by operators of machinery. At the end of 2009, the new EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC came into force. The directive no longer requires manufacturers of machinery to conduct hazard analyses, but rather to perform risk assessments. This term is also used in DIN EN ISO 12100. The European standards DIN EN ISO 12100 Parts 1 and 2 were consolidated with the standard DIN EN ISO 14121-1 into the new European standard DIN EN ISO 12100 in March 2011. With this standard, a comprehensive manual for the Machinery Directive is now available.
