Sighard Gille is one of the leading artists from Leipzig who has shaped Leipzig painting since the 1970s with his distinctive and impressive visual language. He is a sensitive, ironic commentator on everyday situations and societal developments, with a strong emphasis on the painterly aspect. Gille gained significant recognition for the monumental ceiling design in the foyer of the Leipzig Gewandhaus, making him known not only to art connoisseurs. In 1980/81, he created the 714 square meter mural "Gesang vom Leben" - the largest ceiling painting in Europe.
