Product details

Most of Sigmund Freud's writings are now available in various versions and editions. However, it is only this year that the Sigmund Freud Complete Works (SFG), established by Christfried Tögel, includes all writings intended for publication by Freud - including his reviews and contributions to handbooks and encyclopedias. All publications are presented in the form in which they first appeared and are supplemented with introductions to the biographical and historical scientific context. An overview at the end of each volume facilitates the location of texts in the collected writings, collected works, and study edition. Volumes 1 to 20 contain the works intended for publication by Freud in chronological order. Volume 21 includes unpublished or posthumously published lecture texts and interviews. Volume 22 features a Freud diary that lists events from his life and is introduced by chronicles and calendars kept by Freud himself. Volume 23 concludes the SFG with a comprehensive index of all volumes. The fifth volume of the SFG includes all writings by Freud published in 1895 and 1896. His studies on hysteria are considered the most important work of this period. Additionally, the work "On the Aetiology of Hysteria" is included, in which Freud presented his belief that adults with hysterical or obsessive-compulsive symptoms had experienced sexual abuse as children - a thesis he would later retract.
