This work demonstrates the production of the first silicon-based light-emitting diodes (SiLEDs) using silicon nanocrystals. A detailed study also thoroughly investigates the optoelectronic and morphological properties of the SiLEDs. Additional application areas for silicon nanocrystals, ranging from biomedicine to laser sintering of particles, as well as a comprehensive spectroscopic examination of this novel nanomaterial, complete this work.
