Ingeborg Bachmann published her second collection of stories, "Simultan," in 1972, which was her last book release since the end of the sixties, coinciding with her work on the "Todesarten" project. This work shares the theme of women who are harmed by a patriarchal society and hindered in life. In the longest story of the collection, "Drei Wege zum See," there is a concluding statement regarding patriarchy: "...as long as this new man did not exist, one could only be friendly and good to each other for a while. There was nothing more to be made of it, and it would be best for women and men to keep their distance...".
