Ruth Geller was born in 1924 in Chemnitz, Saxony. Even while in school, she took music and acting lessons, first in Israel, where her family emigrated in 1935, and from 1951 to 1952 at l'Éducation Par le Jeu Dramatique in Paris. Starting in 1955, Ruth Geller received engagements at all theaters in Israel. As a pianist and actress, she worked both on and off stage, appeared in films both domestically and internationally, and later was also seen on television. In addition, Ruth Geller studied at Tel Aviv University, earning a bachelor's degree in literature and Jewish history, followed by a master's degree in Jewish history. She then studied philosophy for two more years, but various engagements left her with no time to complete this degree. The recordings of her memories of a tumultuous life came, as she says, quite spontaneously while dusting.
