In light of the steadily increasing crime rates, crime prevention has gained significant importance both internationally and nationally today. In particular, situational crime prevention has reached a high level of significance. This prevention strategy aims to alter opportunities for specific types of offenses to the detriment of potential offenders. The focus of this work is to outline and present empirical case studies with the goal of determining from their results whether changing the structures of crime opportunities leads to a real reduction in certain types of offenses or merely results in a displacement.
