Even more stripe paintings. The stripe paintings by Barnett Newman, Kenneth Noland, Bridget Riley, Gerhard Richter, Frank Stella, and Daniel Buren have long become legendary. It seems somewhat cheeky when a relatively successful yet still young artist today attempts to put old wine into new bottles. But does he really do that? The excellent little book, which provides a good insight into this well-known body of work by Anselm Reyle, clearly demonstrates through its elaborate production with seven-color printing that not all stripes are the same and that the new remains connected to the old while adding something entirely new to it. And this newness is not only found in the unique color palette of Anselm Reyle's stripe paintings. It is, as always in painting since the beginning of the 20th century, about something deeper.
