Sculptural Independence

When you follow an artist's work for so many years, it becomes particularly dear to your heart – indeed, you celebrate their success. Georg Herold has truly experienced many successful and glamorous moments, honors, and presentations. Now, after celebrating his 70th birthday in July 2017, he can look back on an impressive career and calmly set up a retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Bonn. Today, he is considered one of the defining figures of the last 30 years in international art, partly because his work embodies an exuberant spirit of experimentation. He uses simple materials, which has often been thematized from the audience's perspective. His work is full of ironic moments, and he plays with traditional forms of visual representation.
