Debates about gender and diversity in social work exist in the tension between theoretically demanding, yet sometimes disconnected discussions and professional approaches that lack a focus on difference. In the practice of social pedagogical institutions, there are both difference-sensitive and essentializing, generalizing, as well as difference-blind concepts. The anthology first provides an overview of the theoretical discourses on gender, diversity, and intersectionality, and attempts to relate them to one another. In the second part, it addresses the challenge of analyzing central approaches in social work regarding the consequences of their exclusion of gender and other social differences. Based on this, proposals for their difference-sensitive further development are formulated. The third part is dedicated to analysis.
