Product details
To this day, Wolfgang Jantzen's "Sozialisation und Behinderung" (1974) remains relevant, as it provides a social science foundation for disability education. In his view, disability cannot be seen solely from an individualistic perspective. The objectification of disabled individuals leads to various prejudice structures against them, and disability is socially constructed. Based on this premise, Jantzen offers a critical overview of the social situation of disabled people in the Federal Republic of Germany. He focuses on the social construction of disability, historical and social epidemiological findings, the discussion of the relationship between class and social strata, as well as the evaluation of prejudice studies. His research makes it clear that those who are disabled are often individuals who already have limited opportunities due to societal conditions and are marginalized by society.
