The Palmengarten is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Originally established as a civic institution, the connection between the people of Frankfurt and "their garden" remains strong to this day. At the same time, it has always kept pace with the times. There have been many changes, such as the first expansions of the grounds at the end of the 19th century, or in 1930 when the garden came under municipal ownership, through the reconstruction after World War II, and the major renovations starting in the late 1960s. Nevertheless, the Palmengarten has never lost its roots: it has always remained a showcase garden, a cultural venue, and an educational institution. The large-format picture and text volume highlights both the history of the Palmengarten and the institution's current self-understanding. Furthermore, it offers a glimpse into the future, where the Palmengarten must face new challenges in the era of climate change.
