Many Holocaust survivors often remained silent for a long time. They did not want to burden their children, who in turn wanted to protect their parents. Hans Riebsamen traces the trauma inflicted on Holocaust survivors and their descendants. Understanding this burden is important not only for Jewish families but also for non-Jewish Germans. The daughters, sons, and grandchildren of about 40 families share how the trauma has affected them and their attempts to process it or emancipate themselves from it. The texts are accompanied by expressive photos from Jewish photographer Rafael Herlich.
