Good wine and good sparkling wine are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar. However, the wine cellars of the region are central places of Rheingau wine culture. In his first "cellar book," FAZ author and wine blogger Oliver Bock portrays wine cellars that are viticulturally interesting, historically significant, and architecturally remarkable. Bock succinctly illuminates the history of the wine vaults, explores the treasures of each cellar for special varieties, outlines their usage over the centuries, shares anecdotes, and describes their current significance for the respective winery and their aging methods in the cellar.
