Product details

Summer by the Lake was published in 1958; the story takes place in the 1930s among the Milanese bourgeoisie. Vigevani depicts the clothing of that time, recounting the music that young people listened to, a trumpet solo, and the preference for blues. The protagonist is 14-year-old Giacomo, and the narrative revolves around the transition from childhood to the world of nearly-adults, whom Giacomo refers to as the "Grown-ups." The fourteen-year-old is melancholic and lazy, not particularly good in school, and feels belittled because the "Grown-ups" do not take him seriously and exclude him from their circle. His entry into adulthood includes the obligatory introduction to love and the education of feelings, involving everyone around him: his father, his sister, and his friends. He first falls in love with.
