Product details

One of his most beautiful portraits of women. Hunger is the fundamental melody of her life. Ethel Brun meets it during World War II, but not only the hunger for bread, but also for happiness, justice, and truth. In Paris, Ethel suffers primarily from her parents' unhappy marriage and the constant disputes over money. Her father's extravagant lifestyle threatens to plunge the family into bankruptcy. As nationalist and anti-Semitic sentiments grow louder in France, she courageously takes charge of the family's troubled finances at barely twenty years old and flees with her helpless parents to Nice after the Germans occupy Paris. After bitter years of hunger and having emotionally detached from her parents, she marries and emigrates to Canada, into a world without anti-Semitism, without wars, without hunger. Completely unpathetic.
