The mathematician Ferhad, 48, unmarried, decides to move to Ankara after 24 years in a small Swiss town. His great love Soraja, whom he secretly met for two years, he was not allowed to marry because he was fourteen years older than her and not religious. Also too dark-skinned, a legacy from his mother, who descended from Kenyan slaves. Soraja has become a pharmacist and runs a pharmacy in the city. Back then, she hastily married the newly wealthy and devout Murad, who was approved by her parents. The marriage became a torment for her; the devout Muslim Soraja aligns herself with Western values, while Murad clings to the ideas of his Anatolian hometown.
