In school, it's not just about lessons; it's also about education: the school should help young people develop into self-confident, critical, and tolerant individuals. However, they are also exposed to various socialization influences: within the family, in their peer groups, and through their media usage. This book analyzes these complex interrelationships and addresses five educational issues: How is non-violent behavior supported? How can the school educate for democratic action? How can it contribute to the critical appropriation of gender roles? How are transitions managed, and how are deviance and deviation prevented? To illustrate these points, practical situations are described to derive educational action perspectives.
