Abstract: The terms "totalitarian" and "totalitarianism" first appear in the political thought of Italian fascism. Mussolini himself, who explicitly declared the "feroce voluntá totalitaria" of his movement in a speech on June 22, 1925, is credited with this new political terminology. In the same year, Mussolini coined the famous formula: "Everything in the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state." The concept of totalitarianism, which subsequently gained significance through Italian fascism, National Socialism, and also communism, became a scientific category.
