In 1993, the photo book "In the Hospital - The Human Between Technology and Care," published by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, was released. It was the last book designed by Otl Aicher, and the photographs by Timm Rautert were considered groundbreaking. Twenty-five years later, the foundation invited photographers once again to capture images at the Alfried Krupp Hospital: Ludwig Kuffer, Andreas Langfeld, and Elisabeth Neudörfl. They created images of a highly technical and strictly functional working environment, where the service of people to people remains at the center. The photographs are accompanied by texts that explore the hospital as a unique place, as well as themes of illness and death, and the relationship between the hospital and society, in an essayistic (Hanna Engelmeier), literary (Thomas Hettche), and scientific (Armin Nassehi) manner.
