Countless camera eyes and sensors are now focused on the world. They capture land masses and ocean floors, the surfaces of plants, human and animal bodies, as well as the composition of the atmosphere. Through elaborate computational processes, the measurement data obtained is translated into images for the human eye. These methods form the basis of scientific knowledge acquisition; they are used for controlling and monitoring industrial production processes and, not least, for decision-making and oversight in medicine, law, and politics. The exhibition and publication project "Machine Vision" provides insight into the places where new measurement, visualization, and automation techniques are being developed, documenting an area of our culture that is undergoing such rapid change that knowledge about current concepts, devices, and methods is lacking.
