Product details

On November 20, 1969, Heinrich Riebesehl enters the publishing building of the Neue Hannoversche Presse. He intends to take photographs in the elevator, aiming the camera more or less discreetly at those facing him. It is a well-defined action set that he enters: a small room with an almost square layout, illuminated by cool ceiling lights, and a small-format camera equipped with a wide-angle lens and a remote shutter release. The entire shoot lasts 5 hours and 35 minutes, resulting in a cross-section of all social classes within the publishing building. A photographic tableau that, similar to Walker Evans in his famous New York subway series, addresses the conceptual task of photography, where the photographer maintains control over the image. "People in the Elevator" is presented on the occasion of the major summer exhibition at Spren.
