Between the detonation of an explosive charge and the collapse of a building often lies only seconds, but the planning for a demolition takes weeks. Demolition is a profession based on experience and conveyed through the medium of images. Before bringing a building down, the demolition expert creates a precise technical drawing of the process. The demolition itself is then captured with multiple cameras from different angles. Afterwards, the drawings are superimposed on the photographs to control the demolition. This is a continuous comparison, an optimization between the conception and the reality through drawing and photography. In her artistic work, Alina Schmuch primarily uses the medium of photography and works in the book with the extensive image archive of the Fink demolition family, which includes various imaging media.
