Product details

In 2015, Andrzej Steinbach released the photo book Figur I, Figur II, which portrayed two women. In his new book, he expands the group of subjects to explore the question: Why should we distrust binary order schemas and turn to the configurations of the Third? Steinbach uses the classic format of group portraits or family portraits as his photographic starting point. All the figures involved look towards the camera and gaze at the viewer. However, in the center of the image, there is always only one person visible, while the others are cropped out. In the series, the models change their positions and clothing, creating a playful confusion that continually disrupts the trio's arrangement. The title Gesellschaft beginnt mit drei is inspired by the essay of the same name by Ulrich Bröckling and is Steinbach's work.
