Product details

Just as a person's face expresses their physical and mental state, the shapes of clouds are visible signs of what is happening in the atmosphere. This comparison was made by the English pharmacist and meteorologist Luke Howard in 1803 in his draft for a classification of cloud forms, "On the Modifications of Clouds." Eighty years later, meteorologists were still not in agreement on how to properly classify, name, and interpret cloud shapes. During this time, scientists began to use photography for the first time. With its help, they aimed to capture precise and lifelike images that provided insights into the interplay between clouds and the atmosphere. "Cloud Studies" showcases six stages of meteorological cloud photography, starting from its beginnings in the 1880s in Switzerland with the first.
