This book describes both the characteristics of professional theater for young audiences and the theatrical play of children and adolescents, with both receiving equal appreciation. The essays and speeches compiled here have emerged over the course of thirty years from various artistic and educational contexts. They engage with fundamental questions of this field: the relationship between theater and education, the interplay between audiences and actors, and the resulting dramaturgy and styles of play. Thoughts on an aesthetics of these forms of theater are presented based on the peculiarities of children's play and its affinity with Bertolt Brecht's epic theater.
