In Spinoza's thinking, the greatest proximity to neo-Confucian doctrine can be observed. By presenting Spinoza's ethics alongside neo-Confucian teachings, a better understanding of the Chinese and Western interpretations of the world and human existence is attempted. It shows that Spinoza's ethics encompass not only metaphysics but also ethics, and that neo-Confucian teachings include both ethics and metaphysics. This clearly demonstrates that Spinoza's ideas are much more plausible and relatable than they appear in their strict form, while the thoughts of Chu Hsi gain clarity when organized in a manner that is oriented towards Spinoza's logical structure.
