Among non-comic readers, "Malcolm Max" already has a large fanbase, as the charismatic demon hunter first appeared in 2008 in the eponymous audio drama series. After three episodes, initially as a supplement to "Gespenster-Geschichten" and then as part of the audio drama series "Geister-Schocker," the intermedial flirtation with the comic now follows: Set in Victorian England on the brink of the 20th century, the artistic duo Ingo Römling and Peter Mennigen presents the start of the steampunk mystery series as a symbiotic design that unites at least two genre traditions: the self-irony of the "Buffy" narratives and the mannerism of 19th-century horror novels.
