Among non-comic readers, 'Malcolm Max' already has a large fan base, as the charismatic demon hunter first emerged in 2008 in the eponymous audio play series. After three episodes, initially included with 'Gespenster-Geschichten' and later as part of the audio play series 'Geister-Schocker', the intermedial flirtation with the comic now follows: Set in Victorian England on the brink of the 20th century, the artistic duo Ingo Römling and Peter Mennigen present the start of the steampunk mystery series as a symbiotic design that unites at least two genre traditions: the self-irony of the 'Buffy' narratives and the mannerism of 19th-century horror novels.
