It is the year 1851, and the Gold Rush in California has been in full swing for three years. Hundreds of thousands are flocking to San Francisco in hopes of quick wealth, among them many Frenchmen fleeing the aftermath of the Paris February Revolution of 1848. Maximilien Bonnot is one of them, but he is not driven by the greed for gold. His motive for traveling west is different: revenge. The generous gift from a sales representative of Colt, which he leaves him after a fight, comes in handy. For Maximilien encounters more than enough resistance on his path, and it cannot always be overcome with words.
