There is hunger in the village where the young Skald Thorgal and his girlfriend wait in vain for the return of the Drakkar, which is supposed to bring back the Viking warriors who went on a war mission. In the absence of the mad Gandalf, his son Björn suggests sacrificing Thorgal to the gods. Fortunately, the catch of three whales, lured by the song of our hero, ensures the villagers' survival. However, the whales turn out to be three young women who have fallen victim to a curse. Thorgal must try to save them and sets out to fight the terrible Norns, for only they can restore the women's true forms.
