Political linguistics is now a firmly established subfield of linguistics that focuses on the relationship between language and politics. The present second, completely revised and updated edition of the workbook, first published in 2002, reflects the dynamic development of this research area and provides a comprehensive overview of topics and methods. In addition to "classic" themes such as political language functions, political lexicon, the struggle for terms, types of political texts and conversations, as well as discourse analysis, new internet-based forms of political language action, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Rapid Response, are also highlighted. Exemplary individual analyses of selected text types and discourses demonstrate the effectiveness of the model for analyzing political language presented in this workbook.
